VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
A senate RESOLUTION
To recognize and honor the Life and legacy of Jaysen Carr and to declare Saturday, July 18, 2026, as "Jaysen Carr 'Be a good Human' Day" in South Carolina.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pleasure in honoring the life and legacy of Jaysen Clarence Louis Carr who passed away on July 18, 2025; and
Whereas, Jaysen was born on October 3, 2012, to Clarence and Ebony Carr, and was a natural born leader and friend to all, always looking for ways to help and encourage those around him. His parents say that Jaysen embodied the message, "Be a Good Human," always offering a kind gesture to others in the hope of improving their day. His family will continue to spread Jaysen's message and legacy through the "Jaysen Carr 'Be a Good Human' Foundation." They have already made a difference by hosting a baseball tournament fundraiser to help towards research and finding a cure for the amoeba that took Jaysen's life and supporting a scholarship for a student athlete at Dreher High School. On October 4, 2025, his family and friends came together at one of his favorite places, Altitude Trampoline Park to celebrate Jaysen's Birthday and continue to support and spread the "Be a Good Human" message with all who loved him; and
Whereas, Jaysen made a lasting impact on every life he touched, making friends everywhere he went as he was active in school, church, band, sports, and volunteering efforts in his free time. He loved sports, cars, playing video games, sunsets, cooking, telling dad jokes, hanging out with friends and family, and spreading joy to all around him. He was a rising 8th grader at Hand Middle School and a proud member of both the football and basketball teams, helping to lead both teams to district state championships. He played flute in the Honor Band and was an honor student, even being a year ahead. Jaysen was also a member of Unified Champions, a school group dedicated to inclusion and compassion for all; and
Whereas, Jaysen loved baseball, starting young as a standout for Trenholm Little League. Being able to play every position, he quickly progressed to the 12U Yard Dawgs and the 13U/14U Sawmill travel baseball teams. He then played for the Dreher High School B and JV teams. He was known as being a great leader on and off the field, always encouraging teammates, lifting spirits, and celebrating everyone's wins as if they were his own; and
Whereas, Jaysen was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was active in the youth program at Shandon United Methodist Church. His faith, love for God, magnetism, and kindness radiated in every space he entered; and
Whereas, Jaysen's legacy will live on through those who knew and loved him while they continue to share his story and message, inspiring many to "Be a Good Human" just like Jaysen. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the life and legacy of Jaysen Carr and declare Saturday, July 18, 2026, as "Jaysen Carr 'Be a Good Human' Day" in South Carolina.
