A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO MRS. RUTH LONG GREER OF YORK COUNTY FOR HER MORE THAN THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS OF TRULY OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN EDUCATION ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned with deep regret that Mrs. Ruth Long Greer of York County, one of this State's most dedicated educators, is retiring on June 30, 1995, after a thirty-eight year career in education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Greer earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina and her M.A. and EDS degrees from Winthrop University; and

Whereas, Ruth Greer is the Principal of Sullivan Middle School in Rock Hill and has served as a principal for the past twenty years of her thirty-eight year career; and

Whereas, she has served tirelessly in an effort to address the problems and concerns in the areas of discipline, improved curriculum, student morale, teacher morale, parent involvement, enriched activities, and improved school environment; and

Whereas, Ruth Greer is well known and will be fondly remembered for her extremely pleasant personality, her unending patience, her professional demeanor, and her willingness to go the extra mile; and

Whereas, she has given generously of her time and talents over the years by participating in many professional associations and advisory capacities for the betterment of public education; and

Whereas, she has always shown individual attention to each of the students in the public school sector and, by doing so, has generated a thirst for knowledge in all of them; and

Whereas, she is a dynamic leader, instilling in her teachers and staff her own enthusiasm for educating students in the best possible manner; and

Whereas, she is blessed with a devoted husband, Sam M. Greer, and a son, Sam P. Greer, an attorney at law; and

Whereas, Ruth Greer is highly deserving of recognition and of an expression of gratitude for her many contributions to her students, family, school, and church which have earned her the justifiable affection and respect of all those with whom she has worked or served. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Ruth Long Greer of York County for an exemplary thirty-eight year career in education and extends to her best wishes for happiness following her retirement on June 30, 1995.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Ruth Long Greer.
