Summary: Uniform school start date, General Assembly to make any change in law
    A BILL TO AMEND SECTION 59-5-71, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A UNIFORM BEGINNING DATE FOR THE ANNUAL SCHOOL TERM, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPLEMENTATION, THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL MAKE ITS RECOMMENDATION TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY NO LATER THAN JANUARY 1, 2003, AND TO PROVIDE THAT IMPLEMENTATION OF ANY CHANGE TO THE PRESENT SCHOOL START DATE PROCEDURES MUST BE DETERMINED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY BY LAW.
