A Bill to amend Section 44-51-30, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, relating to release of voluntary patients being treated for alcoholism or drug addiction and commencement of proceedings for judicial hospitalization, so as to provide for nonemergency hospitalization instead of judicial hospitalization; to provide for release to be postponed for commencement of proceedings for not more than twenty days instead of ten days; to provide that the patient must be immediately released if nonemergency hospitalization is not ordered or is determined to be unwarranted; and to require a determination of chronicity for nonemergency hospitalization to be ordered.
