    A Bill to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section 8-1-145 so as to provide a procedure for a person holding an elective public office to submit an irrevocable resignation from his office to be effective on a specific date, require an election to be held to fill the office as if the vacancy occurred on the date the irrevocable resignation is submitted, and provide that a newly elected official may not take office until the vacancy actually occurs; and to repeal Act 294 of 1988 relating to the procedure authorized for an elected officeholder to tender an irrevocable resignation to be effective at a future date.
