 CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

TO CONGRATULATE LEXINGTON COUNTY'S WHITE KNOLL HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND ON CAPTURING THE 2010 SOUTH CAROLINA AAAA STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, on October 31, 2010, the White Knoll High School Marching Pride outscored all comers to win the 2010 South Carolina Band Director's Association Class AAAA State Marching Band Championship competition, held at Spring Valley High School; and

Whereas, this victory was all the sweeter to the Marching Pride because it marked the group's first state championship since the inception of White Knoll High School; and

Whereas, the win also crowned a very successful season for the Marching Pride's outstanding musicians, who, prior to the championship bout, had won first place in their class and third place overall at the Western Carolina University Tournament of Champions competition, Grand Champion designation at the Hartsville Tournament of Bands competition, and the top prize at the South Carolina Lower State AAAA Championships on October 23, 2010; and

Whereas, in a field that requires demanding hours, rigorous work, and tedious practice, the White Knoll High School Marching Pride's 2010 record clearly testifies to the musical and instructional excellence of its director, Ken Turner; its assistant directors, Lex Price, Chris Bussell, and Mark Hodowanec; and its color-guard director, Gary Hilton; and

Whereas, congratulations are also in order for the parents, school administrators, and officials of Lexington County School District One, who supported the band and its managers and staff all the way to the top; and

Whereas, the Senate takes great pleasure in recognizing such an exceptional group of young musicians and expects to hear of continued achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Lexington County's White Knoll High School marching band on capturing the 2010 South Carolina AAAA State Marching Band Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Principal Jo Mayer and Band Director Ken Turner of White Knoll High School.
