A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE STAFF AND STUDENTS OF THE ACADEMY FOR THE ARTS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY RECENTLY NAMED AS A "NEW AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL" IN HORRY COUNTY.
Whereas, The Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology was established in the school year 1993-94 to encourage creative methods of education aimed at educational reform; and
Whereas, the curriculum included the basic academic schedule plus emphasis in ten special areas ranging from Dance and Theater to Pre-Engineering, Medical and Golf Landscaping; and
Whereas, the intent was to maintain a highly personalized, safe learning experience in a small "school within a school" environment; and
Whereas, technology was to be integrated into the classroom to provide high quality instruction; and
Whereas, the need for an active alliance with employers, policymakers and community members with one hundred percent parental support was recognized; and
Whereas, both students and educators having achieved these objectives, The Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology was named a "New American High School" and so honored by the U.S. Department of Education on Thursday, November 30, 2000; and
Whereas, this recognition was one of only twenty-seven given to schools throughout the United States this year and one of fifty-nine since 1996. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate commends The Academy of Arts, Science and Technology for its outstanding achievements, bringing honor to themselves and to our area.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to The Academy of Arts, Science and Technology.
