A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE RICHLAND NORTHEAST HIGH
SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM UPON CAPTURING THE CLASS
AAAA DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY,
DECEMBER 4, 1993, AT WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM IN
COLUMBIA.
Whereas, the Richland Northeast High School Football team captured
the Class AAAA Division 2, State Championship Saturday, December
4, 1993, at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia; and
Whereas, the Cavaliers defeated Hartsville 30-24 in double overtime to
claim the title; and
Whereas, the state championship not only is the Cavaliers' first but the
first in any sport for the school which opened in 1978; and
Whereas, Richland Northeast Football Coach Joe Wingard credits
assistant coaches Ed Porter, Barry Mizzell, and Robin Bacon with doing
"an incredible job of finding Hartsville's soft spots." He said
Jay Frye and the defensive coaches did a great job of preparing the
Cavaliers against a well-balanced offense; and
Whereas, the Cavaliers proved why they truly deserved the hard fought
title of state champion. The team supposedly was overmatched by the
Red Foxes, but the players never gave up; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize
the fighting spirit of each member of the football team of the Richland
Northeast Cavaliers as well as their coaches. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Richland
Northeast High School Football Team upon capturing the Class AAAA
Division 2 State Championship Saturday, December 4, 1993, at
