A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE LADY PANTHERS VOLLEYBALL
TEAM OF MCBEE HIGH SCHOOL IN CHESTERFIELD COUNTY
AND THE TEAM'S COACH, MS. LAURIE ROBERTS, ON
WINNING THEIR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE CLASS A STATE
CHAMPIONSHIP.
Whereas, the Lady Panthers volleyball team of McBee High School in
Chesterfield County has won a fifth consecutive Class A state
championship, beating Pleasant Hill High School 15-6, 15-8, and 15-4;
and
Whereas, the team is coached by Laurie Roberts, who also coaches girls
basketball and has won the state championship numerous times in that
sport (Coach Roberts' lady Panthers basketball team finished as
runner-up in the 1994 state finals); and
Whereas, Coach Roberts is the daughter of Chesterfield County
Councilman A.J. Caulder, who was the girls basketball head coach at
McBee High School and won numerous state titles; and
Whereas, on the whole, the young women who play volleyball for
McBee High also play on the basketball team; and
Whereas, Coach Laurie Roberts also coached Cherita Linton, a highly
talented high school and college athlete who previously led the Lady
Panthers basketball team to a 30-0 season; Cherita died on December 26,
1993, of Lupus, a chronic disease of unknown origin; and
Whereas, the members of the Lady Panthers volleyball team displayed
genuine hard work, talent, dedication, and unity in winning the Class A
state crown and are greatly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore, Be
it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, congratulates the lady Panthers volleyball team of McBee
High School in Chesterfield County and the teams coach, Ms. Laurie
Roberts, on winning their fifth consecutive Class A state championship.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
team and Coach Roberts.
