CONGRATULATING ASHLEY KAREN KERR, FOURTH
GRADE STUDENT AT HARBISON WEST ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL IN IRMO, ON HER INTERNATIONAL
ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND SUCCESS IN KARATE.
Whereas, Ashley Karen Kerr is an outstanding student-athlete; she is
a fourth-grader at Harbison West Elementary School in Irmo, where
she is on the Principal's Honor Roll; she has been the South Carolina
martial arts champion of the 6-10 year old age group since she was
four years old; she has won numerous martial arts titles and has
represented the Palmetto State in both national and international
competition; and
Whereas, in 1997 during the period she reigned as South Carolina
Blackbelt Karate Champion, Ashley won the following titles while
representing her State: South Eastern Blackbelt AAU (Amateur
Athletic Union) Karate Champion, National AAU Blackbelt Karate
Champion, and AAU Junior Olympics Blackbelt Karate Champion;
for these accomplishments, she was selected to be a member of the
AAU All-America Team; and
Whereas, in February, 1998, as United States Champion representing
both South Carolina and the USA, Ashley achieved her greatest
victories to date: while competing in the World Karate Organization's
"World Junior Budo Cup Competition at Walt Disney's Wide
World of Sports Complex, she won gold medals in all three events of
competition; this accomplishment brought distinction to the United
States in international competition as a force to be reckoned with
both now and for years to come; Ashley established herself as the
number one girls blackbelt in the world and made the United States
Team the team to beat in the future; and
Whereas, Ashley Kerr is a remarkable young lady and a credit to her
State and nation; she has made all South Carolinians and indeed, all
Americans tremendously proud of her accomplishments; she is a
superb role model, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to
accord her this special recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, congratulates Ashley Karen Kerr, fourth grade student at
Harbison West Elementary School in Irmo, on her international
accomplishments and success in karate.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Miss Kerr.
