A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE SUMMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "GREEN WAVE" BOYS' VARSITY SOCCER TEAM, COACHES, AND STAFF ON WINNING THE 1998-99 CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to have an opportunity to recognize the Summerville High School "Green Wave" Boys' Varsity Soccer Team on their successful 1998-99 season; and

Whereas, the Summerville High School Soccer Team ended Irmo High School's four-year championship winning streak in order to capture the boys' varsity AAAA state title in soccer, pounding the Irmo Yellow Jackets 3-0 before a crowd of two thousand at Memorial Stadium; and

Whereas, the Green Wave exploded for three goals in the first 26:01 to bury Irmo, then used an impenetrable defense to hold on for the shutout that cinched the state title; and

Whereas, scoring one hundred fifty-eight goals during the season for a school record, defeating sixteen of their opponents with shutouts for another school record, and allowing only twenty-one goals during the season, Summerville won the 1999 Lower State Championship and, when the final match with Irmo was over, the Green Wave also captured its first state title since 1984; and

Whereas, Principal Earl Lovelace, Athletic Director John McKissick, Head Coach Ron Brady, along with Assistant Coaches Jay Hudson, Mark Weaver, and James Adcock, and Manager Erin Brady, by hard work and perseverance provided the coaching, leadership, and support that enabled their splendid team to finish the season 24-2-2 and upset Irmo for the AAAA state championship; and

Whereas, the members of this exceptional team consisted of Andy Branton, Eric Durand, Aaron Watkins, Joey Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Britt Seprish, T. Westmoreland, Scott Runyon, Matt Kascak, Matt Fretschel, Josh Rogers, Eddie Naugle, Will Plexico, Tyler Dumas, Matt Kuhn, Matt Smith, Matt Pryor, Greg Smith, Porter Balderson, Chris Jones, and T. J. Turner; and

Whereas, the success of the Summerville High School "Green Wave" Soccer Team has brought great pride to their school, community, and to those who love sportsNext and good Previoussportsmanship by the competitive manner in which they concluded their thrilling 1998-99 season. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend the hearty congratulations of the members of the General Assembly to the Summerville High School "Green Wave" Boys' Varsity Soccer Team, coaches, and staff on winning the 1998-99 Class AAAA state championship in soccer.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Summerville High School AAAA Boys' Varsity Championship Soccer Team.
