A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE UNION HIGH SCHOOL "YELLOW JACKETS" FOOTBALL TEAM ON A TREMENDOUS SEASON OF SPIRITED COMPETITION AND CONGRATULATE THE "YELLOW JACKETS" ON WINNING THE 2000 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE CLASS AAA FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, having won twenty-eight of their last thirty games, and without losing to a Class AAA team since October of 1998, the Union High School "Yellow Jackets" Football team finished the 2000 season with one loss and a fourteen game winning streak to win their second consecutive state Class AAA Football Championship; and

Whereas, winning resounding victories over conference rivals York, Clover, Chester, Fairfield Central, and Broome, the Union High School "Yellow Jackets" completed a successful season with a winning 5-0 conference record, and

Whereas, destined for grid iron glory, the spirited Union High School "Yellow Jackets" Football team handily dispatched Riverside High School 56-16 in the first round of the Class AAA Upper State Playoffs, toppled Seneca 28-7 in the quarterfinal game, steadily advanced past the Clinton squad 33-7 in the semifinal match-up, and overcame a tough challenge from Greer 17-6 to win the Class AAA Upper State Championship; and

Whereas, unwilling to rest on their laurels and welcoming the opportunity to defend their state Class AAA Football championship, the "Yellow Jackets" prepared in earnest to meet Manning High School in the game that would decide which team would be the next state Class AAA football champions; and

Whereas, the "Yellow Jackets" and their faithful Union following traveled to Williams-Bryce Stadium in Columbia for the game to climax the season and determine the State Class AAA Football Championship. The "Yellow Jackets" leaped to a 21-0 halftime lead over Manning. Following another score by Union in the second half, and two touchdowns from Manning, the "Yellow Jackets" successfully defended their State Class AAA Football Championship with a 28-12 victory worthy of champions over the Manning Monarchs; and

Whereas, the Union High School "Yellow Jackets" Football team once again proved to be real champions both on and off the grin iron. Well coached, ably led, and inspired by head coach Mike Anthony, the 2000 state Class AAA "Yellow Jackets" championship teams consisted of: Jarvi Thompson, Wallace Clayton, Chris Clayton, Stewart Young, Kyle Browning, Charles Brandon, Shun Eison, Matthew Gardner, William Peake, Daniel Gregory, Jermaine Savage, Josh Harris, David Smith, Xavier Byrd, Ramsey Fowler, Marcus Ruth, Quenton Savage, Andre Howze, Michael Land, Tiger Glenn, Curtis Rice, Antoine Smith, Osiel Zapata, Roscoe Crosby, Bristen Pride, Stanley Rice, Randy McKendrick, Adams Mullins, Josh Diew, Terence Salter, Roberto Smith, Tony Perrin, Chris Jones, Quinton Giles, James Wicks, Marcus Foster, James Ruth, Ryan Chandler, Tim Bright, Cedrick Jones, Hollis Jones, Marcus Littlejohn, Jay Baylor, Jarad Morgan, Jerel Brandon, Adrian Lipscomb, Chris Bennett, Jon Mize, Eric Young, John Gregory, Robbie Malone, Harold Jeter, Brandon Jeter, Donnie Wells, Russ Austin, Trey Newton, Travis Harris, Cory West, Antonio Shippy, Will Eddington, John Rampey, Mickey Rice, Brian Renwick, and David Smith; and

Whereas, the football players, individually and as a team, the coaches, the staff and faculty of Union High School, and the parents and loyal fans of the "Yellow Jackets" all contributed to a successful football season and a second State Class AAA Football Championship in a row. The contributions, achievements, competitive spirit, and sportsmanship of all concerned are a source of pride to all South Carolinians, and the members of the General Assembly take this opportunity to commend and congratulate the outstanding 2000 Union High School "Yellow Jackets" Football team for its good example, repeat championship performance, and a job well done. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, commend the Union High School "Yellow Jackets" Football team on a tremendous season of spirited competition and congratulate the "Yellow Jackets" on winning the 2000 South Carolina State Class AAA Football Championship and their second consecutive state football championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Mike Anthony on behalf of the 2000 State Class AAA Union High School "Yellow Jackets" Football team of Union.
