 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO COMMEND THE IRMO HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS TEAMS AND THEIR
 COACH, BILL PORTER, FOR WINNING BOTH THE GIRLS AND BOYS STATE CLASS AAAA
 TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS YEAR.

TO COMMEND THE IRMO HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS TEAMS AND THEIR COACH, BILL PORTER, FOR WINNING BOTH THE GIRLS AND BOYS STATE CLASS AAAA TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS YEAR.

Whereas, in the fall of 2000, Coach Bill Porter coached the girls tennis squad of Irmo High School to the State Class AAAA Championship. This victory represented the Irmo girls team's sixth State Class AAAA Championship with Coach Porter; two other times they have been the upper state champion and runner-up to the state title; and

Whereas, sixteen players made up the roster for this team that had an undefeated season of seventeen wins and no defeats. They are Lauren Stephens, Victoria Moody, Sara Giles-Madden, Tracy Ross, Kayce Porter, Stephanie Givens, Marie Cross, Casey Bookout, Lauren Huebner, Courtney Sowell, Jenny Waller, Beth Stephens, Neilly Croft, Lauren Kritt, Jessie Waller, and Betsy Dobbins. Misses Stephens, Moody, and Giles-Madden were cited as all-region players; Stephens and Moody also were named all-area and all-state; and

Whereas, high school boys play tennis in the spring. The Irmo Yellow Jacket boy's team completed the sweep by winning the State Class AAAA title. This victory was Coach Porter's tenth boys title in his twenty-four years of coaching Yellow Jacket tennis. This team's record was seventeen wins and one defeat; and

Whereas, the sixteen boys making up the roster are Scott Hartley, Zack Robertson, Brian Payne, Michael Cartin, Paul Wirth, Chris Clifton, David Mitchell, Scott Duernberger, Jonathan Eckstrom, Tripp McDaniel, David Perry, Andrew Robertson, Jonathan Shoultz, Danny Schmitt, Jonathan Waller, and Wade Watson. The team manager is Josh Smith and assistant coach is Johnny Hartley; and

Whereas, several players on the boys team deserve special mention. Hartley, Robertson, and Wirth were cited as all-region players; Scott Hartley was also named all-state and was the Region Three Class AAAA singles champion and player of the year; and

Whereas, playing sports develops a student athlete's self-discipline and work ethic. It also fosters camaraderie among the players. Both Irmo tennis teams had the chemistry that allowed them to "click" together and be victorious. No doubt Coach Porter is an important part of the equation. We congratulate him for his lifetime coaching record of three hundred seventy-three wins and thirty-four losses over twenty-four years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina Representatives, by this resolution, commend the Irmo High School tennis team and their coach, Bill Porter, for winning both the girls and boys State Class AAAA Tennis Championships this school year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Bill Porter.
