FOR HIS TREMENDOUSLY SUCCESSFUL SEASON ON THE BASKETBALL COURT AND
CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING THE 2002 NAISMITH PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND RAYMOND FELTON OF LATTA, SOUTH CAROLINA, FOR HIS TREMENDOUSLY SUCCESSFUL SEASON ON THE BASKETBALL COURT AND CONGRATULATE HIM ON BEING THE 2002 NAISMITH PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, Raymond Felton was named the 2002 Naismith Prep Basketball Player of the Year for his extraordinary accomplishments on the basketball court; and
Whereas, the Naismith Player of the Year award is presented each year to the best high school basketball player in the entire United States; and
Whereas, Raymond Felton is one of the highest scoring players in South Carolina history, having set a single-season record for three-pointers with 117 and having won the state's championship scoring mark with forty-five points in a game against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler; and
Whereas, Raymond Felton credits his success to his strong faith in God and the unending support of his loving parents; and
Whereas, Raymond Felton has received a number of other honors for his remarkable season including being named to the McDonald's All-American team and being invited to play in the EA SPORTS Roundball Classic; and
Whereas, during his outstanding senior season as a point guard for the varsity men's basketball team, Raymond Felton averaged thirty-one points, 8.9 assists, 9.1 rebounds, and 5.6 steals per game; and
Whereas, Raymond Felton used his incredible athletic talent and leadership skills to lead the Vikings of Latta High School to consecutive Class A State Championships, and the Vikings have amassed a spectacular record of one hundred four wins and only nine losses during Felton's four seasons; and
Whereas, Raymond Felton plans to attend the University of North Carolina after graduating from high school where he will continue developing his terrific basketball skills while receiving a quality education; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is proud to recognize the superb athletic accomplishments of Raymond Felton, one of the finest basketball players in the history of the Palmetto State, and the members wish him great success in all his future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, commend Raymond Felton of Latta, South Carolina, for his tremendously successful season on the basketball court and congratulate him on being the 2002 Naismith Player of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Raymond Felton of Latta, South Carolina.
