 STAFF OF THE DORCHESTER ACADEMY VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR
 OUTSTANDING SEASON AND THEIR 2002 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
 ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND
 ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE DORCHESTER ACADEMY VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND THEIR 2002 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO WISH THEM MUCH ATHLETIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THE FUTURE.

Whereas, the Dorchester Academy Varsity Girls Basketball Team defeated Hilton Head Prep 54-42 to win the 2002 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA Championship in Sumter on March 2, 2002; and

Whereas, members of the winning team are seniors, Callie Stephens, Mary Snyder, Emily Tyner, Allison Minus, and Danielle Watson; juniors, Fay Johnson, Nikki Dukes, Sara Chinners, and Ashley Green; and sophomore, Kara Ayer; and

Whereas, the team finished the season with thirty-one wins and only one loss and was named the South Carolina Independent School Region 1-AAA Regular Season Champions. The girls also won the Region 1-AAA Tournament; and

Whereas, the State Championship was the third won by Head Coach Buddy Hartzog in his fifteen years at Dorchester Academy. He was named Coach of the Year by the Orangeburg, S.C. Times and Democrat, the High School Sports Report, and the Post and Courier; and

Whereas, the team's season of hard work and dedication was recognized with honors going to several individual players. Ashley Green, Callie Stephens, and Mary Snyder were named to the All-Region 1-AAA Team and were selected to play in the All-Star Game; and

Whereas, Callie Stephens was named the Lowcountry Player of the Year, and Mary Snyder, Danielle Watson, and Ashley Green were named honorable mention; and

Whereas, Mary Snyder and Callie Stephens were named to the All-Area First Team, and Callie Stephens was ranked as the number seven player in South Carolina among public and private schools; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to honor the Dorchester Academy Lady Raiders Varsity Basketball Team for their outstanding accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate the players, coaches, and staff of the Dorchester Academy Varsity Girls Basketball Team on their outstanding season and their 2002 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA State Championship and wish them much athletic and academic success in the future.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dorchester Academy Varsity Girls Basketball Team.
