AND REMEMBERING HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS AS A FAITHFUL MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY
OF SOUTH CAROLINA FAMILY.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MR. THOMAS HART PRICE AND REMEMBERING HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS AS A FAITHFUL MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA FAMILY.
Whereas, Mr. Thomas Hart Price graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1951, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism; and
Whereas, Mr. Tom Price joined the University of South Carolina Athletic Department in 1962 after eleven years in wire service journalism; and
Whereas, Mr. Price served as Sports Information Director for the University of South Carolina from 1962 to 1985 and as Assistant Athletics Director/Media Relations from 1985 to 1992. He continued to serve the athletic department in an emeritus capacity and as athletic historian from 1992 to 2008; and
Whereas, Mr. Price was inducted into the College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame in 1981. He was a recipient of the 1992 CoSIDA Lifetime Achievement Award and winner of the 1993 CoSIDA Arch Award, an award presented annually to a College Sports Information Directors of America member who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of college sports information and who, by his or her activities, has brought dignity and prestige to the profession; and
Whereas, Mr. Price was official scorer for the South Carolina Baseball home games and served as analyst on the Gamecock Radio Network for road games; and
Whereas, Mr. Price was a former president of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and received the Wilbur Snypp Award from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in 1982 for promotion and service to college baseball; and
Whereas, Mr. Price was inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001; and
Whereas, Mr. Price was the author of several books on Carolina football, basketball, baseball, and other sports; and
Whereas, the University of South Carolina family was saddened by the death of Mr. Tom Price on Friday, February 1, 2008, at the age of eighty-one. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, do recognize the accomplishments of Mr. Thomas Hart Price, honor his many memorable years as Sports Information Director at the University of South Carolina, and express their sorrow upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Thomas Hart Price.
