A Bill to amend Sections 56-5-5350 and 56-5-5360, Code of Laws of South
Carolina, 1976, relating to the annual motor vehicle inspections, official
inspection stations, and the applicable fees, so as to require biennial rather
than annual inspections and to increase the maximum inspection fee from two
and one-half dollars to nine dollars and to increase the inspection sticker
fee from fifty cents to one dollar.

A BILL
TO AMEND SECTIONS 56-5-5350 AND 56-5-5360, CODE OF
LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE
ANNUAL MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTIONS, OFFICIAL
INSPECTION STATIONS, AND THE APPLICABLE FEES, SO AS
TO REQUIRE BIENNIAL RATHER THAN ANNUAL INSPECTIONS
AND TO INCREASE THE MAXIMUM INSPECTION FEE FROM
TWO AND ONE-HALF DOLLARS TO NINE DOLLARS AND TO
INCREASE THE INSPECTION STICKER FEE FROM FIFTY CENTS
TO ONE DOLLAR.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 56-5-5350(a) of the 1976 Code is amended to
read:
"(a) Effective on and after January 1, 1969, the
The South Carolina Department of Highways and Public
Transportation shall require that every vehicle registered in this State,
except house trailers, shall to be inspected at least once
a year every two years and have displayed
display at all times a South Carolina Department of Highways
and Public Transportation-approved certificate of inspection and
approval in a practical location specified by the department. No person

SECTION 2. Section 56-5-5360(d) of the 1976 Code is amended to
read:
"(d) Official inspection stations may charge a fee of not more
than two nine dollars and fifty cents for each
inspection and fifty cents one dollar for the issuance of
inspection certificates. Provided, that if any If a vehicle
does not pass inspection at any a station and is taken to
another place to have such the defect corrected, the fee
shall may not be charged again provided
if the motor vehicle is taken to the station which originally
made the inspection. Inspection forms shall must be
prepared by the South Carolina Department of Highways and Public
Transportation and furnished to inspection stations at a cost of fifty
cents one dollar each."
SECTION 3. This act takes effect on the first day of the sixth month
following approval by the Governor.
