H. 4100

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE NINETEEN-YEAR PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE ASSOCIATED MARINE INSTITUTES AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE THAT HAS MADE AN IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION IN THE LIVES OF OVER FIVE THOUSAND BOYS AND GIRLS AND LED TO NEARLY ONE THOUSAND GED'S.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note that the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Associated Marine Institutes have enjoyed a nineteen-year partnership; and

Whereas, this partnership has made important contributions and touched the lives of more than five thousand boys and girls and generated nearly one thousand GED certificates among these children; and

Whereas, this valuable partnership prioritizes public safety and public education through thousands of community service hours and comprehensive and motivating GED, high school diploma, post secondary educational and therapeutic counseling components; and

Whereas, in addressing the issue of alternatives to incarceration, education, and the overrepresentation of minorities in institutions, this partnership has encouraged the running of safe and effective programs through core values and comprehensive, firm, and compassionate counseling; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so they might express their appreciation for this outstanding partnership and its effective programs. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation for the nineteen-year partnership between the Associated Marine Institutes and the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice that has made an important contribution in the lives of over five thousand boys and girls and led to nearly one thousand GED's.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Associated Marine Institutes.
