A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR HAMPTON PreviousCOUNTYNext, ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST HISTORIC AND SCENIC AREAS, ON THE OCCASION OF ITS ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, Hampton PreviousCountyNext this year is celebrating its one hundred twenty-fifth birthday; and

Whereas, an 1877 petition of citizens living in the northernmost section of Beaufort PreviousCountyNext submitted a plea to the state legislature for a new PreviouscountyNext with a courthouse to call their own within reasonable travel time of their homes; and

Whereas, Hampton PreviousCountyNext is the thirty-third of the state's forty-six PreviouscountiesNext, created by act of the General Assembly on February 18, 1878, when the northern portion of Beaufort PreviousCountyNext became Hampton PreviousCountyNext; and

Whereas, the PreviouscountyNext and the PreviouscountyNext seat are named for General Wade Hampton II, distinguished South Carolina soldier and statesman, Governor and United States Senator; and

Whereas, Hampton PreviousCountyNext today is a modern yet elegant area where its citizens and leaders are cognizant of the PreviouscountyNext's past and are looking forward to its future; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to recognize and honor this truly wonderful part of South Carolina's Lowcountry on the occasion of its one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and honor Hampton PreviousCountyNext, one of South Carolina's most historic and scenic areas of the Lowcountry on the occasion of its one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of the resolution be presented to the people of Hampton PreviousCounty on the occasion of its one hundred twenty-fifth anniversary at the sixty-first Watermelon Festival.
