A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF THE LEXINGTON COUNTY BLOWFISH BASEBALL CLUB ON WINNING THE 2023 COASTAL PLAIN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, to the high delight of their many fans, the Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club captured the 2023 Coastal Plain League Championship, securing the Petitt Cup with a 7-5 win over the Wilmington Sharks on Saturday, August 12, 2023; and

Whereas, the club's win capped off a season record of 28-18; and

Whereas, Bill and Vicki Shanahan own and operate Shanahan & Company Sports Management, parent company of the Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club, a proud member of the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League; and

Whereas, the team plays thirty-plus Blowfish home games each season, recognizes local military families during home games, and has raised thousands of dollars for Lexington County charitable organizations with yearly and seasonal player jersey auctions, including the special "Hooties" team jerseys. These auctions, in cooperation with the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation, raised over twenty thousand dollars for the Lexington Medical Center Foundation in 2023; and

Whereas, the mission of the Blowfish Baseball Club is to continue to provide Lexington County with a high level of fun, affordable family entertainment in a safe, enjoyable atmosphere. Each season, the Blowfish team roster includes players from the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina, The Citadel, Columbia International University, and other colleges from across the region and nation. The Blowfish championship roster included college players who had returned home for the summer and who previously had attended local Lexington County high schools. This is truly Lexington County's home team; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House takes great pleasure in applauding the Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club and is confident that the fine athletes who make up the team's roster will continue to carry out the worthy mission of the Blowfish Baseball Club. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the members of the Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club on winning the 2023 Coastal Plain League Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club.
