A BILL
TO AMEND TITLE 59, CHAPTER 112, CODE OF LAWS OF
SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO TUITION AND FEES
AT STATE INSTITUTIONS, BY ADDING SECTION 59-112-75
SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS MAY
RECEIVE A TUITION VOUCHER FOR ONE COURSE AT AN
ISSUING STATE INSTITUTION WHEN SUPERVISING
STUDENTS WHO ARE COMPLETING THEIR EDUCATIONAL
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. Title 59, Chapter 112 of the 1976 Code is amended
by adding:
"Section 59-112-75. Notwithstanding other provisions of this
chapter, the governing boards listed in Section 59-112-10(A) above,
must provide by policy or regulation for a tuition waiver program for
public school teachers who serve as 'cooperating teachers'. For
purposes of this section an eligible 'cooperating teacher' is a public
school teacher who supervises full time students completing
education degree requirements. Pursuant to the tuition waiver
program a 'cooperating teacher' may receive a voucher to be applied
toward tuition for one course at the institution issuing the
voucher."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval of the
Governor.
