A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE JAMES R. BLASSINGAME OF
ORANGEBURG ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THIRTY-FIVE
YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR AND AN
ADMINISTRATOR IN SOUTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SCHOOLS,
COLLEGES, AND UNIVERSITIES AND TO WISH HIM WELL.
Whereas, James R. Blassingame of Orangeburg is retiring in June, 1992,
after serving for thirty-five years as an educator and an administrator in
public schools, colleges, and universities in South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Blassingame received a Bachelor of Science degree in
business administration and a Masters degree in education and
counselling from South Carolina State College; and
Whereas, he has thirty post master's hours in school administration and
sixty additional hours in areas related to school administration and
finance; and
Whereas, Mr. Blassingame began his career in education in Edisto
District Schools first as a teacher and then as an assistant principal; and
Whereas, he went on to be a principal at John Ford High School, St.
Matthews High, and Calhoun County High School; and
Whereas, he also served as Director of Finance and Associate
Superintendent of Calhoun County Schools; and
Whereas, on the college and university level, Mr. Blassingame served
as an administrator at South Carolina State College and at the University
of South Carolina; and
Whereas, throughout Mr. Blassingame's career he has demonstrated his
leadership and expertise as an educator and an administrator through
developing innovative programs such as the School Leadership Council,
an After School Remediation Program, and a Drop-out Prevention
Program; and
Whereas, his dedication and commitment have gained Mr. Blassingame
the respect and admiration of not only the students he has taught but the
faculties he has served and his peers across the State; and
Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to take this opportunity to
recognize and commend Mr. James R. Blassingame for his thirty-five
years of dedicated, untiring service to this State, the communities, and
institutions in which he has served as an educator and an administrator.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate James R. Blassingame of
Orangeburg on his retirement from thirty-five years of dedicated service
as an educator and an administrator in South Carolina public schools,
colleges, and universities and wish him well.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Blassingame.
