S*0781 Concurrent Resolution, By Drummond
A Concurrent Resolution expressing the heartfelt appreciation of the members
of the General Assembly to Mr. Joseph P. (Joe) Barnett, longtime employee of
the South Carolina Department of Insurance, for his invaluable service during
a distinguished career on the occasion of his retirement and extending to him
best wishes, health, and happiness in the future.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE HEARTFELT APPRECIATION OF THE
MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. JOSEPH P.
(JOE) BARNETT, LONGTIME EMPLOYEE OF THE SOUTH
CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE, FOR HIS
INVALUABLE SERVICE DURING A DISTINGUISHED CAREER
ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AND EXTENDING TO
HIM BEST WISHES, HEALTH, AND HAPPINESS IN THE FUTURE.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned that Mr.
Joseph P. (Joe) Barnett, employed by the South Carolina Department of
Insurance since 1963, intends to retire on March 31, 1991; and
Whereas, Mr. Barnett, before joining the Department of Insurance in
1963, served in the United States Army in Korea from 1951-1953 and
also as a columnist for the State newspaper from 1945 to 1951 and from
1953 to 1963 served as assistant city editor and on the governmental
affairs staff and as court reporter for that newspaper; and
Whereas, since joining the Department of Insurance as a research
assistant, he became Director of Information Services in 1972 and
Deputy Insurance Commissioner for special services in 1973; and
Whereas, in 1975 he was made special assistant to the Chief Insurance
Commissioner and served as secretary to the South Carolina Insurance
Commission; and
Whereas, all who know Joe Barnett, including members of the General
Assembly, staff, employees of his own agency, and those in the
insurance industry have found this distinguished public servant to be a
fount of knowledge and wisdom on both the current issues of the day
involving insurance and in the arcana of South Carolina insurance
issues; and
Whereas, he has been an invaluable source of useful information for
those who labor in the insurance field and will be sorely missed when he
retires; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to
pause in their deliberations to honor so distinguished a South Carolinian
whose career in every way reflects the high calling of public service.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express their heartfelt
appreciation to Mr. Jospeh P. (Joe) Barnett, longtime employee of the
South Carolina Department of Insurance for his invaluable service
during a distinguished career on the occasion of his retirement and
extend to him best wishes, health, and happiness in the future.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Barnett.
