A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING RICHARD L. GORRELL OF ANDERSON COUNTY FOR HIS FINE WORK AS ASSOCIATE EDITOR OF THE ANDERSON INDEPENDENT-MAIL AND PreviousWISHINGNext HIM HAPPINESS IN HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Richard L. Gorrell recently retired as associate editor of the Anderson Independent-Mail after fifteen years with the Independent Publishing Company; and

Whereas, Mr. Gorrell's three years as editorial page editor of the newspaper capped a forty year career in journalism; and

Whereas, before his association with the Anderson Independent-Mail, he was part owner and editor-publisher of a weekly newspaper in Michigan; and

Whereas, he also worked for other newspapers, the Carolina's bureau of The Associated Press, and the Washington bureau of Fairchild Publications; and

Whereas, he served as president of the South Carolina Associated Press News Council in 1980 and was one of fifty-five newspaper representatives on a jury nominating Pulitzer Prizes in 1984; and

Whereas, he has had a distinguished journalistic career and has been active in his community while with the newspaper in Anderson; and

Whereas, Mr. Gorrell is deserving of recognition for his professional accomplishments. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes Richard L. Gorrell of Anderson County for his fine work as associate editor of the Anderson Independent-Mail and Previouswish him happiness in his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gorrell.
