A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING BETTY A. HENDERSON OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY UPON HER RETIREMENT AS ORANGEBURG COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR AND PreviousWISHNext HER GOOD HEALTH AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Betty A. Henderson retired December 31, 1993 as the Orangeburg County Tax Assessor; and

Whereas, Mrs. Henderson was the first black tax assessor in South Carolina and served the citizens of Orangeburg County well in the office of tax assessor for many years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Henderson was the recipient of the County Administrator's Award of Excellence in 1989 and 1990; and

Whereas, she served as vice president of the South Carolina Association of Assessing Officials from 1990 to the present and she is currently a member of the board of directors of the association; and

Whereas, in her capacity as tax assessor Mrs. Henderson was instrumental in Orangeburg County becoming one of the first counties in the State to come into compliance with the state and federal requirements for appraisers with total appraisal staff licensing; and

Whereas, she published a widely distributed, very helpful information packet entitled "What You Need to Know about Your Taxes"; and

Whereas, as county tax assessor she demonstrated her strong sense of fiscal responsibility and government efficiency when she oversaw the production of the county's current set of parcel boundary overlays from current aerial photographs at a two hundred thousand dollars saving to the county; and

Whereas, she was a dedicated public employee and she is well respected in her field and after a long and illustrious career serving the citizens of Orangeburg County and the State of South Carolina, she will be sorely missed in the Tax Assessor's Office. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
