A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

SALUTING AND THANKING HARRY S. BELL FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA FARM BUREAU FEDERATION AND ITS AFFILIATED COMPANIES AND EXTENDING BEST PreviousWISHESNext TO HIM UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Harry S. Bell retired in December, 1997 as President of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation and its affiliated companies; and

Whereas, Mr. Bell served for more than twenty-six years as SCFB President, the longest tenure of any state Farm Bureau president in the United States; and

Whereas, under Harry Bell's exemplary leadership, the SCFB quadrupled in size, from just over 30,000 member families to a current all-time membership high of nearly 128,000 family members representing all forty-six counties in the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, Mr. Bell has been a Farm Bureau leader throughout his distinguished career: he served as vice president of the four and a half million member American Farm Bureau Federation for eight years (from 1986 to 1994) and on the American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors for twenty-two years representing the Southern region; in 1989 he was elected President of the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company of Jackson, Mississippi, and in 1991 he was elected Chairman of the Board and President by the company's directors; and he also served on the Board of Directors and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company which represents six states; and

Whereas, he has also served in numerous other positions of leadership and responsibility and is recognized throughout the nation for his dedication, vision, and service to agriculture; and

Whereas, we are greatly pleased to have this opportunity to accord special recognition to such an outstanding individual and we PreviouswishNext him much success and happiness on the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salute and thank Harry S. Bell for his outstanding service as President of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation and its affiliated companies and extend best Previouswishes to him upon his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Bell.
