 CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA,
 SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHESNext FOR A WELL DESERVED RETIREMENT.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DR. FRANCIS L. ABEL FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE, CONTRIBUTIONS, AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA, SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, AND TO EXTEND BEST PreviousWISHESNext FOR A WELL DESERVED RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Dr. Francis L. Abel became a founding member of the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in September of 1975; and

Whereas, Dr. Abel came to this new enterprise for the express purpose of founding a program of education and research in the discipline of physiology; and

Whereas, he recruited many talented faculty to assist in the Herculean effort of building a Department of Physiology; and

Whereas, he served as Chair of the Department of Physiology for nearly twenty-three years; and

Whereas, he served as Interim Dean and later Associate Dean for Basic Science Affairs for the School of Medicine during his administrative tenure; and

Whereas, he authored over sixty-five peer-reviewed scientific papers in respected journals and edited several books during his thirty-eight year career as a medical researcher; and

Whereas, he received both a Research Career Development Award and a National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Health during his distinguished professional career; and

Whereas, he authored articles on the "Circulatory System" and "Shock" in The World Book Encyclopedia; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such a capable leader, distinguished professor, and outstanding scholar. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognizes and congratulates Dr. Francis L. Abel for his many years of exemplary service, contributions, and accomplishments as Chair of the Department of Physiology at the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine, and extends best Previouswishes for a well deserved retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Francis L. Abel.
