A Bill to provide for the millage to be levied in Marion County for school
purposes for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1983, and ending June 30, 1984,
to provide for the apportionment of revenues monthly by the Clerk of the
County Board of Education, to require each school district and vocational
school in the county to submit budget requests to the County Board of
Education by March first of each year, and to require the County Board of
Education to submit budget recommendations to the county legislative

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE MILLAGE TO BE LEVIED IN MARION COUNTY FOR SCHOOL
PURPOSES FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 1983, AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1984, TO
PROVIDE FOR THE APPORTIONMENT OF REVENUES MONTHLY BY THE CLERK OF THE
COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, TO REQUIRE EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT AND VOCATIONAL
SCHOOL IN THE COUNTY TO SUBMIT BUDGET REQUESTS TO THE COUNTY BOARD OF
EDUCATION BY MARCH FIRST OF EACH YEAR, AND TO REQUIRE THE COUNTY BOARD OF
EDUCATION TO SUBMIT BUDGET RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION BY APRIL FIFTEENTH OF EACH YEAR.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Millage levied for school purposes
SECTION 1. There is hereby levied in Marion County for school purposes for the fiscal year beginning July
1, 1983, and ending June 30, 1984, the following millage:
Marion District No. 1:
Countywide millage for all schools 81
County Board 6
Marion-Mullins Vocational School 10
Millage for Brittons Neck 2

Mullins District No. 2:
Countywide millage for all schools 81
County Board 6
Marion-Mullins Vocational School 10
Millage for Brittons Neck 2

Revenue collected by treasurer
SECTION 2. The revenue must be collected by the treasurer, after which he shall notify the clerk of the
county board of education of the amount collected each month, and the clerk shall apportion the money
monthly as follows:
(1) The local support required by the State for each district shall receive first obligation in order for the
district to receive its state allocation and distributed as collected.
(2) The remainder of the eighty-one mills must be distributed equally to all districts based on weighted pupil
unit as collected.
(3) Six mills are collected for the county board of education and retained for operation of the county board
of education, school food service, attendance supervisor and adult education programs.
(4) Two mills from Districts 1, 2, and 4 for one year only, must be collected and distributed by the clerk of
the county board of education to Brittons Neck District No. 4 plus sixteen mills must be collected from
Brittons Neck District No. 4 and distributed as collected.
(5) Two mills from District 3 for one year only must be collected and distributed by the clerk of the county
board of education to the Lower Marion District No. 3.
Budgets to be submitted
SECTION 3. Each school district and vocational school in Marion County shall submit their budget requests
to the County Board of Education no later than March first of each year and the County Board of Education
shall submit each budget recommendation, including their own, to the Marion County Legislative Delegation
no later than April fifteenth of each year.
Time effective
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor. |
