The Attorney General estimates a revenue loss of $1,200 in other
funds due to the fact that current filing fees would no longer be
collected from these organizations.

A BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 33-56-50, AS AMENDED, CODE OF
LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO
CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS EXEMPT FROM FILING A
REGISTRATION STATEMENT WITH THE ATTORNEY
GENERAL, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PARENT-TEACHER
ORGANIZATION AFFILIATED WITH AN EDUCATIONAL
INSTITUTION IS EXEMPT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 33-56-50(1) of the 1976 Code, as last
amended by Section 28F, Part II, Act 458 of 1996, is further amended
to read:
"(1) an educational institution, including a parent-teacher
organization affiliated with an educational institution, which
solicits contributions only from its students and their families,
alumni, faculty, friends, and other constituencies, trustees,
corporations, foundations, and individuals who are interested in and
supportive of the programs of the institution;"
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
