A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND JANE V. (CANDYE) SLAY, PRINCIPAL OF
REDCLIFFE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN AIKEN AND ONE OF
SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST HONORED SCHOOL
ADMINISTRATORS, UPON HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Jane V. (Candye) Slay is retiring this year as principal of
Redcliffe Elementary School in Aiken where, since 1988, she has
served as principal of this outstanding school which has more than
one thousand students and more than one hundred faculty and staff
members; and
Whereas, prior to coming to Redcliffe Elementary, she served as a
teacher, curriculum coordinator, and principal of other elementary
schools in Aiken and in other South Carolina communities; and
Whereas, she is a graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson,
Mississippi, and has completed postgraduate work at the University
of South Carolina in early childhood education and administration;
and
Whereas, Candye Slay is one of South Carolina's most distinguished
school administrators. Her individual honors include being named
the Outstanding Elementary Teacher in America, the John F.
Kennedy Center for Performing Arts Administrator Award, the South
Carolina Alliance for Arts Education Administrator Award, and being
named the South Carolina Art Education Association Elementary
Principal of the Year. Schools under her supervision also have won
numerous awards and recognitions including the South Carolina
School Incentive Award, the Palmetto's Finest Regional Award, the
South Carolina Writing Improvement Network Exemplary Writing
Award, and the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award for Arts Education;
and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to publicly recognize and thank her on behalf of the
children of Aiken and South Carolina for her career of administrative
and instructional excellence in the public schools of this State upon
the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Jane V.
(Candye) Slay, principal of Redcliffe Elementary School in Aiken
and one of South Carolina's most honored school administrators,
upon her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Jane V. (Candye) Slay.
