S. 1224

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR JEROME JONES FOR HIS OUTSTANDING INFLUENCE AS PATRIARCH UPON THE OCCASION OF FATHER'S DAY.

Whereas, Jerome Jones was born on June 16, 1938 as the second oldest of eleven children born to Reverend Belton Jones, Sr. and Maggie Chandler Jones. During his youth, he worked on his family's farm and in its pulpwood business. He graduated from Battery Park High School in 1955; and

Whereas, a devout Christian, Jerome was reared in a Christian home and joined St. Paul United Methodist Church at a very young age. He remains an active member, and to this day, he serves the church as Sunday school teacher, superintendent, and treasurer; and

Whereas, over the years, Jerome worked for General Electric Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Wellman Industries in Johnsonville, South Carolina. He ultimately retired from the latter company as a lab extruder; and

Whereas, Jerome was married to the love of his life, the late Mildred Jane Dorsey. Together, they had three children: Sharon, Edward, and Carl. A devoted father, he taught his children how to pray and love the Lord. Later, Jerome became father-in-law to Edison, Jennifer, and Toshia; grandfather to ShaVonya Miltrease, Brianna, Brittany, Ebony, Taylor, Emery, and Bryson; and great-grandfather to Carter; and

Whereas, an active leader in his community, he serves as a member of the Nesmith Branch of the NAACP and Mt. Ararat Masonic Lodge #314. On a day-to-day basis, he transports students from home to school and from school to home for Williamsburg County School District; and

Whereas, in his free time, Jerome enjoys farming, fishing, hauling dirt, raising cattle, and reading his Sunday school quarterly; and

Whereas, Jerome finds inspiration in Psalm 37:23: "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way"; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to recognize this incredible man and to extend the utmost gratitude for his positive influence in raising his children and nurturing the next generations of citizens of this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor Jerome Jones for his outstanding influence as patriarch upon the occasion of Father's Day.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jerome Jones.
