 AND HOLIDAY INN AND SUITES COLUMBIA AIRPORT HOTEL FOR THEIR TREMENDOUS EFFORTS
 IN MAINTAINING A RECORD OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
 WHILE PROVIDING A POSITIVE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE STATE AND THE MIDLANDS OF
 SOUTH CAROLINA.

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR INTERCONTINENTAL HOTELS GROUP, INC. AND HOLIDAY INN AND SUITES COLUMBIA AIRPORT HOTEL FOR THEIR TREMENDOUS EFFORTS IN MAINTAINING A RECORD OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY WHILE PROVIDING A POSITIVE ECONOMIC IMPACT ON THE STATE AND THE MIDLANDS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate hereby recognizes InterContinental Hotels Group, Inc. and Holiday Inn and Suites Columbia Airport Hotel for their tremendous efforts in maintaining a record of environmental responsibility and sustainability while providing a positive economic impact on the State and the Midlands of South Carolina; and

Whereas, InterContinental Hotels Group, Inc. believes that true environmental sustainability must be economically sustainable and driven by the use of measurable benchmarks and action plans that reduce energy, water, and waste consumption at individual hotel properties; and

Whereas, this commitment to sustainability at all of their brands--InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, EVEN Hotels and HUALUXE Hotels and Resorts--has led InterContinental Hotels Group, Inc. to develop a proprietary sustainability system, IHG Green Engage, that has served as a model and standard for the hospitality industry; and

Whereas, IHG Green Engage provides the tools for individual hotels to conserve resources and save money by measuring, managing and reporting on their hotel energy, water and waste consumption; and

Whereas, since opening for business on Earth Day, April 22, 2010, the Holiday Inn and Suites Columbia Airport Hotel has implemented the tools provided by InterContinental Hotels Group, Inc. to make environmental responsibility and sustainability guiding principles; and

Whereas, Holiday Inn and Suites Columbia Airport Hotel is proud to be the only full-service hotel in South Carolina that has received the nationally recognized Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and has received various other certifications and awards from local, state, and national organizations recognizing the environmental stewardship practiced by the property; and

Whereas, these commitments and achievements have allowed the Holiday Inn & Suites Columbia Airport Hotel to provide clean and modern accommodations to thousands of guests and travelers to the Midlands while protecting our environment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, hereby proclaim support and appreciation for the positive contributions of Holiday Inn and Suites Columbia Airport Hotel to the citizens and overall safety and quality of life in the Midlands of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Holiday Inn and Suites Columbia Airport Hotel.
