A Concurrent Resolution to salute Mr. Lawrence E. Friendly of Lexington County
and his courageous fighting spirit as he continues to bravely battle cancer
and as he serves as an inspiring example for all who know him.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO SALUTE MR. LAWRENCE E. FRIENDLY OF LEXINGTON
COUNTY AND HIS COURAGEOUS FIGHTING SPIRIT AS HE
CONTINUES TO BRAVELY BATTLE CANCER AND AS HE
SERVES AS AN INSPIRING EXAMPLE FOR ALL WHO KNOW
HIM.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize
Mr. Lawrence E. Friendly of Lexington County and his wonderful life;
and
Whereas, Mr. Friendly daily fights a fierce battle which would have long
ago defeated a lesser man; and
Whereas, he graduated from Irmo High School in 1976 and the
University of South Carolina in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in
Physical Education. Mr. Friendly also received a Master in Education
in 1986 from the University; and
Whereas, beginning early to positively influence the youth in his
community, Mr. Friendly was a volunteer at seventeen years of age with
a community mite football league; and
Whereas, he was an assistant coach for the Jets in the Irmo Mite Football
League. The Jets were Irmo Mite Champs in 1974 and Conference
Champs in 1975; and
Whereas, most of his free time is spent with children and teenagers as
Mr. Friendly gives generously of his time and love for those who surely
will forever be positively affected by this great man; and
Whereas, Mr. Friendly is a member of Chapin United Methodist Church;
and
Whereas, he is assistant coach at Chapin High School for the wrestling
team which won the 1993 AA State Wrestling Championship. Mr.
Friendly also is defensive back coach for the Chapin High School Eagles
football team which won Region Championships in 1983, 1987, 1989,
1991, and 1992; and
Whereas, he is a Physical Education teacher at Chapin Elementary
School and was on staff in 1984 when the Chapin Elementary School
was selected the Palmetto's Finest School. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly salute Mr. Lawrence E.
Friendly of Lexington County and his courageous fighting spirit as he
continues to bravely battle cancer and as he serves as an inspiring
example for all who know him.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Friendly.
