A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
HONORING THE MEMORY OF FRANKLIN DOUGLAS
PITTMAN OF GAFFNEY WHO DIED SUNDAY, MAY 21, 1995,
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SAVE THE LIFE OF A
TWELVE-YEAR OLD BOY WHO DROWNED.
Whereas, on Sunday, May 21, 1995, Franklin Douglas Pittman, a
security guard at Limestone College, rescued Triston Rodgers from
the rock quarry at Limestone College; and
Whereas, despite a valiant and heroic effort to reach Triston's
cousin, Teair Hicks, who was also swimming in the quarry, Teair
drowned; and
Whereas, shortly after this terrible tragedy, Mr. Pittman complained
of a pain in his shoulder and collapsed; and
Whereas, Franklin Douglas Pittman later died at a local hospital;
and
Whereas, the memory of this unselfish effort in which Mr. Pittman
lost his life should be remembered for his supreme sacrifice made
while attempting to save another life; and
Whereas, the act of bravery and courage will always personify the
memory of Franklin Douglas Pittman. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, honor the memory of Franklin Douglas
Pittman of Gaffney who died Sunday, May 21, 1995, while
attempting to save the life of a twelve-year old boy who drowned.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
the family of Franklin Douglas Pittman at a service commemorating
the memory of this brave and courageous man on May 21, 1996.
