06/02/98 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-21
A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE NINE-YEAR-OLD ANDREA WILLIAMS OF
GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HER COURAGEOUS EFFORT IN
SAVING HER GRANDMOTHER FROM DROWNING.
Whereas, Andrea Williams of Greenville County is the nine-year-old
daughter of Sherry Garrison and granddaughter of Judy Pearson; and
Whereas, on May 29, 1998, Andrea's grandmother fell off a pool float
into the deep end of the pool; and
Whereas, Mrs. Pearson, who cannot swim, struggled to stay above
water; and
Whereas, in spite of her struggles she began to swallow and inhale
water; and
Whereas, Andrea and her eight-year-old sister Crystal became aware
of the emergency; and
Whereas, Andrea wisely retrieved the float and used it to support her
grandmother and assist her in escaping the pool waters; and
Whereas, the quick thinking and courage of Andrea and her sister in
aiding their grandmother out of the pool, in calling 911, and in
"giving her some air" by mouth-to-mouth ventilation
rescued Mrs. Pearson from a seriously dangerous emergency. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate hereby recognize nine-year-old
Andrea Williams of Greenville County for her courageous effort in
saving her grandmother from drowning.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Andrea Williams.
