 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE FAITH AND OPTIMISM OF TROY
 DRISCOLL AND JOSH LONG IN ENDURING NEARLY A WEEK AT SEA AND TO COMMEND THEM
 FOR THE COURAGE THEY DEMONSTRATED IN SURVIVING SUCH A HARROWING EXPERIENCE.

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE FAITH AND OPTIMISM OF TROY DRISCOLL AND JOSH LONG IN ENDURING NEARLY A WEEK AT SEA AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THE COURAGE THEY DEMONSTRATED IN SURVIVING SUCH A HARROWING EXPERIENCE.

Whereas, Troy Driscoll and Josh Long launched their small boat in the water on Sullivan's Island, never planning to go beyond the sandbar close to shore, when they were caught in a riptide which took them out into the ocean; and

Whereas, while the boat kept them afloat in eight foot waves Troy and Josh drifted so far out to sea that they assumed they would wash up on the shore of Africa; and

Whereas, Josh was forced to gargle saltwater to keep his mouth moist, while Troy sampled jellyfish; and

Whereas, after they were rescued by fishermen off the coast of North Carolina, both boys were badly dehydrated and scorched by second-degree sunburns and Josh discovered he had lost nearly forty pounds; and

Whereas, it was the boys' faith in Jesus Christ that pulled them through the experience; and

Whereas, Josh believes that the fisherman who found them were angels who had been sent by God as an answer to the fervent prayers and hymns of praise they sang to keep busy on the boat; and

Whereas, Troy Driscoll and Josh Long showed courage and faith well beyond their years during their ordeal at sea and bring great credit to their families and this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize the faith and optimism of Troy Driscoll and Josh Long in enduring nearly a week at sea, and to commend them for the courage they demonstrated in surviving such a harrowing experience.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to Troy Driscoll and Josh Long.
