To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 1051), to request that the Department of Transportation designate Harper Street (Highway 221) situated within the city limits of Laurens, South Carolina, as the President Andrew Johnson Memorial Highway, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass:

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION DESIGNATE HARPER STREET (HIGHWAY 221) SITUATED WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF LAURENS, SOUTH CAROLINA, AS THE PRESIDENT ANDREW JOHNSON MEMORIAL HIGHWAY AND TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT TO ERECT APPROPRIATE SIGNS OR MARKERS REFLECTING THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, Andrew Johnson, the seventeenth President of the United States, operated a tailor shop in the City of Laurens in 1824 and 1825; and

Whereas, his connection to the City of Laurens is not currently memorialized; and

Whereas, the City of Laurens wishes to honor the late president, his residency in the City of Laurens, and his service to the people of the United States. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request the Department of Transportation to designate Harper Street (Highway 221) situated within the city limits of Laurens, South Carolina, as the President Andrew Johnson Memorial Highway and to request the department to erect appropriate signs or markers reflecting this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the City of Laurens and the Department of Transportation
