 HIS THIRTEEN YEARS OF EXEMPLARY AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ON THE BOARD OF
 DIRECTORS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SERVICE AUTHORITY, KNOWN AS SANTEE
 COOPER.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING HENRY BURCHELL RICKENBAKER FOR HIS THIRTEEN YEARS OF EXEMPLARY AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SERVICE AUTHORITY, KNOWN AS SANTEE COOPER.

Whereas, Henry Burchell Rickenbaker, who was initially appointed to the Santee Cooper Board of Directors on May 19, 1986, and reappointed in 1992, retired from the board on May 19, 1999; and

Whereas, Mr. Rickenbaker, who lives in Summerton, represented the Sixth Congressional District on the board; and

Whereas, Henry Rickenbaker is the devoted husband of Henrietta T. Rickenbaker, and they have four children, Lela R. Lance, M. W. Rickenbaker III, Connie R. Bell, and H. Burchell Rickenbaker, Jr.; and

Whereas, Mr. Rickenbaker has served his country with distinction in the military; he served in the Air Corps for three years and was honored for his valor and courage with the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal and the Purple Heart; and

Whereas, he is the president of the Rickenbaker Gin Company in Summerton and is very involved in the cotton industry professional organizations. He has served as the director of the National Cotton Council and the state ACSC chairman. He has further served his community by being on the board of directors of the National Bank of South Carolina and by being the past president of the Lions Club in his community; and

Whereas, Mr. Rickenbaker is a member of the St. Matthias Episcopal Church where he has held the office of Senior Warden. In his spare time, Mr. Rickenbaker enjoys the outdoor life where he fishes and goes quail hunting; and

Whereas, Henry Rickenbaker served on the Santee Cooper Board with verve, enthusiasm, and dedication. In 1998, Henry was the second vice chairman of the board, and during his service he was appointed to numerous committees and served with distinction. These committees and dates of service are as follows: the Property Committee from 1986-1999 and as chairman of this committee from 1992-1999; the Personnel Compensation Committee from 1988-1991; the Legal Affairs Committee from 1991-1999; the Human Resources Committee in 1992 and 1993; the Contributions Committee from 1995-1999 and as chairman from 1995-1997; the Executive-Corporate Planning Committee from 1988-1993 and 1995-1999; the Nuclear oversight Committee in 1987; and the Central/Santee Cooper Executive Committee in 1987; and

Whereas, Mr. Rickenbaker has rendered outstanding service to the Santee Cooper Board and to the State of South Carolina, and he is known, respected, and admired for his integrity and dedication to his work; and

Whereas, the lives of South Carolinians have been enhanced by the contributions of Mr. Rickenbaker and his talents, time, and resources to the Santee Cooper Board. We are pleased to have this opportunity to accord him special recognition. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank Henry Burchell Rickenbaker for his thirteen years of exemplary and distinguished service on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Public Service Authority, known as Santee Cooper.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Henry B. Rickenbaker.
