 HER OUTSTANDING WORK AS PUBLISHER AND MANAGING EDITOR OF THE DANIEL ISLAND
 NEWS AND FOR HER COMMITMENT TO THE DANIEL ISLAND COMMUNITY.

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND SUE DETAR, OF BERKELEY COUNTY, FOR HER OUTSTANDING WORK AS PUBLISHER AND MANAGING EDITOR OF THE DANIEL ISLAND NEWS AND FOR HER COMMITMENT TO THE DANIEL ISLAND COMMUNITY.

Whereas, in the life of a community, few things are as important as communication among its residents so that a sense of community can be developed, neighbors can become friends and learn to trust and serve one another, and local events that help to build quality of life can be planned and carried out; and

Whereas, in 2003, recognizing the need for a community-wide avenue of communication on Daniel Island, where the population had greatly increased since she and her family moved there in 1997, Sue Detar established a community newspaper styled The Daniel Island News and became its publisher and managing editor; and

Whereas, The Daniel Island News, published weekly, goes to great lengths to cover all aspects of life on Daniel Island, from local-interest stories, local sports, student events, and business items to more complicated matters affecting local government; and

Whereas, no other community in the Charleston area has a newspaper of its quality, and it is a local product, designed, written, and distributed by a local company to every household, school, and business on the island and beyond. As a result, the publication deservedly enjoys the support of the local citizenry; and

Whereas, Sue Detar has amply demonstrated her commitment to Daniel Island and its people and has proven that her newspaper's motto, "Promoting the Power of Community," is truly the guiding spirit of the publication. With much admiration, the House of Representatives is pleased to join with the citizens of Daniel Island in commending her for her impressive work as publisher and managing editor of The Daniel Island News. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Sue Detar, of Berkeley County, for her outstanding work as publisher and managing editor of the Daniel Island News and for her commitment to the Daniel Island community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sue Detar.
