 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LOUIS WARMOTH, OF SUMTER COUNTY, FOR
 HIS MORE THAN EIGHTY YEARS WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, AND TO EXPRESS THE
 APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR
 HIS LIFE OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF OUR STATE.

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LOUIS WARMOTH, OF SUMTER COUNTY, FOR HIS MORE THAN EIGHTY YEARS WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, AND TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR HIS LIFE OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF OUR STATE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply grateful for the life of service to the Boy Scouts of America that Louis Warmoth has given the youth of our great State; and

Whereas, born in Sharon in York County ninety-two years ago, he first joined the Boy Scouts in 1927 at the Springsteen Troop in Chester and concentrated on tying knots and pioneer camping where one just goes out without food and lives off the land; and

Whereas, after returning home from service overseas during World War II with a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medal for valor, he has given unselfishly of his time, talent, and resources to his community; and

Whereas, in 1940, he moved to Sumter with his late wife Margaret to work for Carolina Coca-Cola Bottling Company, where he was employed for forty-five years; and

Whereas, immediately the scouting leaders in the community tapped Louis Warmoth to be an assistant Cub Scout master and then Cub master at First Presbyterian Church. After he and his wife joined Trinity United Methodist Church, he led a Cub pack there for seventeen years; and

Whereas, when Louis Warmoth returned to Chester to operate the York and Chester plants for Coca-Cola in 1969, he organized two Cub Scout packs, one of which became the first racially integrated pack in the area; and

Whereas, although he never attained the rank of Eagle Scout, Mr. Warmoth has trained a myriad of leaders in scouting and earned numerous prestigious awards through the Boy Scouts of America, including the Silver Beaver, the God and Country Award, the Palmetto Award, and the Outstanding Commissioner Award, and he has been inducted into the Henry Shelor District Scouting Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, in addition to his scouting duties, Louis Warmoth has given unselfishly to his community in various leadership roles, such as the American Legion District and Post commander and as president of the Sumter County Historical Commission. Mr. Warmoth's extensive civic involvement has earned him the admiration and praise of his community, including his recent recognition as "Rotarian of the Year" for 2008 by the Rotary Club of Sumter-Palmetto; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are thankful that Louis Warmoth, through his life of service for our State and nation, has exemplified the Boy Scout oath, which he considers the "last bastion of civilization". Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Louis Warmoth, of Sumter County, for his more than eighty years with the Boy Scouts of America, and express their appreciation for his life of service to the citizens of our State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Louis Warmoth.
