 A Bill to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section
 38-71-240 so as to require that one standard health insurance form must be
 accepted for use from health care providers by all accident and health
 insurers, including health maintenance organizations and third party payers,
 doing business and providing health care coverage or reimbursement in this
 State, and to require the Chief Insurance Commissioner to promulgate the form
 by regulation.

A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 38-71-240 SO AS TO REQUIRE THAT ONE STANDARD HEALTH INSURANCE FORM MUST BE ACCEPTED FOR USE FROM HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS BY ALL ACCIDENT AND HEALTH INSURERS, INCLUDING HEALTH MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATIONS AND THIRD PARTY PAYERS, DOING BUSINESS AND PROVIDING HEALTH CARE COVERAGE OR REIMBURSEMENT IN THIS STATE, AND TO REQUIRE THE CHIEF INSURANCE COMMISSIONER TO PROMULGATE THE FORM BY REGULATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 38-71-240. One standard health insurance form must be accepted for use from health care providers by all accident and health insurers, including health maintenance organizations and third party payers, doing business and providing health care coverage or reimbursement in this State.

The Chief Insurance Commissioner shall promulgate the standard form by appropriate regulation."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
