A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS OF BENEDICT COLLEGE ON THEIR EXCELLENT SEASONS AND COACHES WILLIE WASHINGTON AND MARGARET ENGLISH JONES FOR BEING NAMED EASTERN INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (EIAC) COACHES OF THE YEAR FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS.

Whereas, the Benedict College men's basketball team posted a 23 and 4 record during the 1992-93 season; and

Whereas, the Benedict College women's basketball team posted a 22 and 3 record during the 1992-93 season; and

Whereas, both the Benedict College men's and women's basketball teams are the 1992-93 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) Champions; and

Whereas, the men's basketball team is also the 1993 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) District 6 Champions; and

Whereas, the Benedict College men's basketball team represented NAIA District 6 in the NAIA's National Championship tournament in Kansas City, Missouri; and

Whereas, both the women's coach Margaret English Jones and the men's coach Willie Washington were voted coaches of the year for the EIAC; and

Whereas, the members of both teams and coaches Willie Washington and Margaret English Jones are to be commended for the hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm which brought about these excellent seasons; and

Whereas, all South Carolinians are extremely proud of the highly talented and outstanding young people who comprise Benedict's basketball teams. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the men's and women's basketball teams of Benedict College on an excellent season and coaches Willie Washington and Margaret English Jones for being named EIAC coaches of the year for their respective teams.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to coaches Willie Washington and Margaret English Jones and the Benedict College men's and women's basketball teams.
