 (RETIRED) JOHN E. FLOYD OF FLORENCE COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER OF
 SERVICE TO HIS STATE AND NATION.

SALUTING AND THANKING CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER W4 (RETIRED) JOHN E. FLOYD OF FLORENCE COUNTY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CAREER OF SERVICE TO HIS STATE AND NATION.

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer W4 (retired) John E. Floyd of Florence County registered for the draft on his eighteenth birthday in May 1943 during World War II and was ordered to Fort Jackson in Columbia where he was sworn in July 1943; he completed basic and advanced combat training at Camp Fanning in Texas, where he was awarded the Expert Infantry Badge, and immediately left for overseas duty; and

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer Floyd saw service in Italy; his combat service was from south of Cassino to the northern border of Italy; this service included his receiving three battle stars; after three months in combat, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant and made a Squad Leader; and

Whereas, during his service in Italy, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, the French Croix de Guerre, and the Combat Infantry Badge; and

Whereas, back in the States following the war, he helped organize the Infantry Company in the National Guard in Florence and served from April 1947 to November 1980; he also served as First Sergeant and was promoted to Warrant Officer in June 1950, and he was also awarded the United States Army Meritorious Medal, the United States Army Commendation Medal, the South Carolina Meritorious Medal, the key to the City of Florence, and other honors; and

Whereas, Chief Warrant Officer Floyd is an outstanding individual who has rendered his State and nation exemplary service and leadership; he is an excellent example of selfless giving, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize him in this special manner for what he stands for and what he has given. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly salute and thank Chief Warrant Officer W4 (retired) John E. Floyd of Florence County for his outstanding career of service to his State and nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chief Warrant Officer Floyd.
