A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE IRMO HIGH SCHOOL YELLOW PreviousJACKETNext BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND THEIR COACHING STAFF FOR WINNING THE 1991 CLASS AAAA STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were very pleased to learn that on March 8, 1991, the Irmo High School Yellow PreviousJacketNext Boys basketball team defeated a fine James Island team 65-63 to win the Class AAAA state championship; and

Whereas, this outstanding win capped a truly magnificent season for the Yellow PreviousJacketsNext who finished the year with a record of 29-2. In addition to winning the state championship, they won the Columbia Tip-Off Tournament and the Kingdom of the Sun Christmas Classic Consolation Championship; and

Whereas, the 1991 season for the Irmo boys was also a season of many firsts. The state championship was the first in the school's history and the total of 29 wins was the most in a single season; and

Whereas, each of the fifteen members of the team contributed to its success and the leadership given by the five seniors throughout the year was a key ingredient in their great year; and

Whereas, Irmo could not have accomplished all that it did without its excellent Head Coach Tim Whipple who in his tenth season as head coach molded a talented group of young men into state champions; and

Whereas, the pride of the Irmo High School family in these young men and their coaches is a result not only of their accomplishments on the court but also because of their conduct, academic achievements, and character off the court; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to recognize and congratulate this truly outstanding group of young men and their coaches upon their winning the state championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly hereby congratulate the Irmo High School Yellow PreviousJacket Boys Basketball team and their coaching staff for winning the 1991 Class AAAA State Basketball Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Tim Whipple and to the principal of Irmo High School.
