S. 457
A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE THE DILLON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM FOR ITS 2008 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Whereas, the Dillon High School football team's players, coaches, and staff made history by capturing the school's first state football championship in sixty years and bringing home the bragging rights to the 2008 Class AA State Championship title; and
Whereas, the team firmly established itself as a Pee Dee powerhouse by defeating Central 7-6 at Death Valley Stadium at Clemson University on Saturday, December 6, 2008, to win the coveted State Championship title; and
Whereas, led by their talented and experienced head coach Jackie Hayes, the team worked together to put together an impressive 12-3 season to set the stage for the ultimate of all victories; and
Whereas, Coach Hayes was ably assisted by his talented coaching staff including Johnny B. Dew, Jason Gunter, Kevin Roberts, Marty McIntyre, Gerald Reeves, Greg Dozier, Alan McLaurin, Famon Whitfield, Johnny Dew, and Robbie Brown; and
Whereas, the team built upon the strong foundation years in the making and in victory remembered the late Coach Willie Fred Daniels, who passed away in 2007 after a coaching career spanning more than forty years; and
Whereas, among the many standout athletes on the 2008 team, senior linebacker L'Twane Thompson was named High School Sports Report's Co-Player of the Year. L'Twane is also the owner of the new school record for career tackles at Dillon with 475. And, "Squeaky" McCollum was a recent pick for the HSSR's All-State team; and
Whereas, Coach Hayes was named 2008 HSSR Statewide Coach of the Year certainly making two members of his team particularly proud of their father; and
Whereas, the Senate takes great pleasure in recognizing the outstanding young athletes of the Dillon High School football team for their terrific season and historic State Championship win. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Dillon High School Football team for its 2008 Class AA State Championship win, and to honor the players, coaches, and staff of the championship team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Lynda Cottingham and Coach Jackie Hayes, of Dillon High School.
