THE COMMITTEE ON
INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS
To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 822) to invite the Lieutenant Governor, the Honorable Glenn F. McConnell, to address the General Assembly in joint session on the state of the aging population in South Carolina, etc., respectfully
REPORT:
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:
LISTON D. BARFIELD for Committee.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO INVITE THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, THE HONORABLE GLENN F. MCCONNELL, TO ADDRESS THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN JOINT SESSION ON THE STATE OF THE AGING POPULATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA AT 12:00 P.M. ON FEBRUARY 12, 2014.
Whereas, the population of South Carolinians over the age of sixty is growing at a rapid rate and the State is expected to have nearly two million senior residents by 2030; and
Whereas, one-third of South Carolina's seniors survive on Social Security alone and fifty-one percent of people older than fifty-five have less than $50,000 saved for retirement; and
Whereas, the Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging works with a network of regional and local organizations to develop and manage programs and services to improve the quality of life of South Carolina's older citizens, and to help them remain independent in their homes and communities. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the Lieutenant Governor, the Honorable Glenn F. McConnell, is invited to address the General Assembly in Joint Session on the state of the aging population in South Carolina at 12:00 p.m. on February 12, 2014, or at another date and time mutually agreed upon by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lieutenant Governor Glenn F. McConnell.
