A SENATE
RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND THE PLASTICS INDUSTRY IN SOUTH
CAROLINA FOR ITS SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTION TO
THE STATE'S ECONOMY AND TO COMMEND CERTAIN
COMPANIES FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP ROLE IN PLASTICS
RECYCLING IN THE UNITED STATES.
Whereas, there are approximately 231 plastic companies in South
Carolina, and the number of such facilities increased thirty-eight
percent from 1991 to 1994; and
Whereas, the plastics industry employs over 23,300 South
Carolinians, and the number of jobs in this industry increased
thirty-one percent from 1991 to 1994; and
Whereas, the plastics industry in South Carolina ships over $4.3
billion worth of products annually; and
Whereas, annual wages paid are approximately $691 million; and
Whereas, certain plastics companies in South Carolina, such as
Wellman, Inc., Martin Color-Fi, Inc., Carolina Eastman Company,
Hoechst Celanese Corporation, and Sonoco Products Company are
recognized as leaders in plastics recycling in the United States.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate commend the plastics industry in
South Carolina for its substantial contribution to the economy of the
State and commend individual companies, such as Wellman, Inc.,
Martin Color-Fi, Inc., Carolina Eastman Company, Hoechst
Celanese Corporation, and Sonoco Products Company for their
leadership role in plastics recycling.
