 PEOPLE OF HARLEYVILLE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

SALUTING AND THANKING THE HONORABLE CHARLES W. ACKERMAN, MAYOR OF HARLEYVILLE, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING, DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF HARLEYVILLE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the Honorable Charles W. Ackerman, Mayor of Harleyville, is retiring from office April 10, 2001, after seven years of outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to the Town of Harleyville and its people; and

Whereas, Mayor Ackerman is a retiree of the Navy Shipyard, and after serving with distinction he retired from the Army National Guard as a Brigadier General; and

Whereas, Mayor Ackerman is known for his "hands on" leadership, "rolling up his sleeves," and taking an active role in all aspects of his governance and in the life of the community; and

Whereas, he has not only served the Town of Harleyville with a wonderful mix of devotion and enthusiasm, but he has been a tireless volunteer giving freely of his time, energy, and talents to numerous worthy causes including his current position as Post Commander of American Legion Post 128; and

Whereas, he is a faithful member of Harleyville First Baptist Church where he is Chairman of the Property and Grounds Committee, a member of the choir, and a Sunday School teacher; and

Whereas, throughout his tenure as mayor he brought great pride and recognition to the people of Harleyville and his legacy of leadership and service will long be remembered; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the South Carolina General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to recognize and pay tribute to the honorable Charles W. Ackerman, Mayor of Harleyville. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, salute and thank the Honorable Charles W. Ackerman, Mayor of Harleyville, for his outstanding, dedicated service to the people of Harleyville on the occasion of his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Charles W. Ackerman.
