H. 5253

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE SERVICE OF THE HUTCHINGS-CALDWELLS DETACHMENT 1134 OF THE MARINE CORPS LEAGUE, OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR THE SUCCESS OF "OPERATION RUDOLPH" TO CONNECT STUDENTS WITH ARMED FORCES TROOPS SERVING THE UNITED STATES ABROAD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the officers and members of the Hutchings-Caldwells Detachment 1134 who have steadfastly served the United States of America with honor through military service and sacrifice; and

Whereas, in 2007 and 2008, these Marines actively participated in a statewide program known as "Operation Rudolph" that allowed Spartanburg County students to send care packages, cards, and letters to troops defending America abroad; and

Whereas, the Marine Corps League and Detachment 1134 organized, collected, and shipped these community gifts and letters to the troops; and

Whereas, a model to citizens of Spartanburg County, their continued community service stands as a tribute to the leadership of Commandant Bob Page, Senior Vice Commandant Rodney Dixon, Junior Vice Commandant Grady Thompson, Adjutant Sandy Thompson, Judge Advocate Leonard Zawacki, Chaplain Roland Salley, Sergeant-at-Arms John Dyas, and former Commandant Rick McCallister; and

Whereas, their past military service, loyalty, and esprit de corps are constantly present in the community by providing the highly regarded Marine Color Guard details, sponsoring student Reserve Officer Training Corps programs, participating in elementary and high school education and numerous civic programs, and organizing local charity events; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are thankful for the ongoing community involvement and individual dedication of the Marines of Detachment 1134, the hallmarks of an honorable citizen-servant. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the service of the Hutchings-Caldwells Detachment 1134 of the Marine Corps League, of Spartanburg County, and congratulate them for the success of "Operation Rudolph" to connect students with Armed Forces troops serving the United States abroad.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Commandant Bob Page of the Hutchings-Caldwells Detachment 1134 of the Marine Corps League.
