 OF HIS DEATH, AND CELEBRATING HIS LEGACY OF CONTRIBUTIONS OF PEACE AND SAFETY
 IN HIS COMMUNITY AND CHERISHED MEMORIES FOR HIS FAMILY.

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE SYMPATHY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF CHESTER LIGHTY, SR., OF LEE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS DEATH, AND CELEBRATING HIS LEGACY OF CONTRIBUTIONS OF PEACE AND SAFETY IN HIS COMMUNITY AND CHERISHED MEMORIES FOR HIS FAMILY.

Whereas, Chester Lighty, Sr., of Lee County died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his home in Wisacky, South Carolina; and

Whereas, he is survived by his devoted wife, Gertha Scarborough Lighty; five sonsNext: Robert Lee Lighty of Saudi Arabia, Chester Lighty, Jr., of Wisacky, Earl Lighty of St. Charles, Eddie Lee Lighty of Bishopville, and Leroy Lighty of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; five daughters: Rozenia James of Wisacky, Dorothy M Lighty of Columbia, Barbara A. Lighty of Bishopville, Carrie Lighty Belton of Wisacky, and Ruth Lighty Graterol of Manville; one Previousson-in-law, Herman Commander (the late Edith Lighty Commander); twenty grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends; and

Whereas, at the time of his death, Mr. Lighty was retired from a stellar eighteen-year career with the Lee County Sheriff's Department, culminating with the rank of Captain of Investigation; and

Whereas, he was a graduate of the Criminal Justice Academy; and

Whereas, his extensive education, training, and experience in the investigation of crime scenes, homicide, and first intelligence made him a valuable asset to the department and a dependable resource for the peace and safety of Lee County; and

Whereas, he was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, serving with distinction and dedication as trustee chairman, lay leader, Sunday School superintendent, chairman of the Administrative Council and of the Finance Committee, and on numerous other committees and in many other capacities; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina is proud to honor the life of a dedicated public servant and loving family man. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives extend the sympathy of the State of South Carolina to the family and friends of Chester Lighty, Sr., of Lee County on the occasion of his death, and celebrate his legacy of peace and safety in his community and cherished memories for his family.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his wife, Mrs. Gertha S. Lighty.
